The Government of Dubai has declared that the reports appearing on social media about the issuing of gaming licenses in the UAE are false. However, no other details were provided by the government.

The statement in question appeared on the Dubai government's official Twitter page on Thursday 22 April.

"The government of Dubai claims that the reports published on social media about the start of gaming licenses in the emirate are incorrect," the statement says.

Gambling is currently not legal in the UAE, although some organizations are authorized by the government to run certain contests and sweepstakes. It is mandatory that they have authorizations from the relevant regulatory authorities.

According to Arabian Business, unlike other Middle Eastern countries, the UAE has separate laws governing online gambling.

For example, the Cyber Crimes Act, which requires Internet service providers to block all websites that host illegal content, particularly related to gambling. Violation of this law extends the punishment to all those involved in the web gaming business.

In addition, a number of laws prohibit not only gambling, but also advertising. And the country also prohibits the opening of gambling establishments for betting in public places or in places specially designated for this purpose.

As a reminder, in 2018, Dubai's government said the country wants to preserve Muslim traditions, and the opening of casinos and other gambling establishments contradicts them.
